This position serves as the primary assistant on economic issues to the Economic Officer and Political/Economic Chief at the Embassy of the United States in Luanda Angola. The position is responsible for a broad range of complex analytical reporting and information gathering on required economic and trade issues.
The incumbent will provide researched advisory economic reporting, including drafts of reports on investment, trade, and transportation in Angola.
The incumbent will follow, analyze and report on activities of the government, industry and trade groups with emphasis on investment policy, transportation and infrastructure, economic decision-making, and changes in leadership. These analyses will be presented orally or in memo format and incorporated, as appropriate, in post reporting.
The incumbent will assist embassy officers in expanding their range of contacts with Angolan and third country national and organizations and encourage good rapport between these figures and U.S. diplomats.

Required Education:
Completion of university studies in international politics, political science, economics, finance, liberal arts, law, public policy, or international development is required.
Required Experience:
5 years practical, progressively responsible experience in an Angolan legal, economic, or political related field where economic research and analysis are a main feature of the work is required.
Required Language:
Level IV (fluent) English and Level IV (fluent) Portuguese are required. Language ability will be tested for otherwise qualified candidates.
Required Job Knowledge:
A thorough knowledge of Angolan politics and history, influential figures and power relationships, economic figures and terms; GRA organization and functions.
A sound knowledge of Angolan development policy, investment policy and regulations; understanding of economic structures.
A sound grasp of U.S. foreign policy objectives vis-à-vis Angola is also desirable.
Knowledge of statistics sufficient to develop economic analysis for reporting and decision making is required.
Required Skills:
Ability to develop and maintain an extensive range of mid and high level contacts in the host government and industry.
Ability to inter-relate economic developments to economic and social forces.
Ability to prepare precise, accurate, factual and analytical reports and biographical reports on a wide range of.
Ability to organize and execute complex research projects and first draft preparation of required reports on sensitive issues such as the Investment Climate Statement is required.
